A chief attraction in Lanzarote is its extraordinary volcanic landscape with a multitude of remarkable places, including Timanfaya National park, El Golfo and Los Verdes Caves and of course the superb white sandy beaches.
The Lanzarote landscape is a prime ecological example for all sustained by its magnificent integration with the environment. Lanzarote's hotel and apartment complexes have been skilfully woven into its backdrop of volcanic rock, which effortlessly blends into the environment, as have small housing developments built in the traditional manner.
The most popular resort on the island is Puerto del Carmen. Although not very large in size, it has numerous restaurants, night spots, shops and a superb beach. Costa Teguise, further north, offers a group of select Hotels, where we find the renowned Hotel Salinas, one of the most luxurious hotels in Europe. On the southern coast, the resort of Playa Blanca has grown around a small fishing port. Nearby are the most stunning beaches on the island and idyllic coves of Papagayo complete with white sand and crystal clear waters. The relative isolation of the above mentioned beaches has contributed to their remaining unspoiled.
